Intouch Health is an Integrative Body Therapy clinic in the heart of Auckland. They provide a range of body therapy services, including lymphoedema therapy and lymphatic drainage.

I receive referrals from area plastic surgeons for those having undergone breast reconstruction. Referral is not necessary however, and treatments may include colour refreshers for tattoos done elsewhere, and some time ago. Services also include camouflage and micro-needling for troublesome scars, as well as saline lightening/removal of unwanted tattoo.

As a cancer exercise specialist, I specialize in designing and supervising exercise programs for individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer. This includes developing a program to improve physical function and overall fitness, manage symptoms such as fatigue, and aid in recovery after treatment. I may also work with patients to address specific concerns such as lymphedema. I also provide education on the benefits of exercise and physical activity during and after cancer treatment. Compression pumps are an effective treatment tool for lymphoedema and breast surgery recovery. Rent to use in the convenience of your home to reduce oedema, ease limb heaviness and soften tissue and discomfort from fibrosis or breast scars. Options include single arm or arm-chest garments. Rent-try-buy options are available. We recommend you discuss treatment settings with a lymphoedema therapist to optimise outcomes.

Lymphoedema therapists support people living with lymphoedema (caused by cancer or not) and support its prevention. Lymphoedema services are offered in all District Health Boards (except the Wellington region). Referral processes vary. Addresses for referral to a DHB lymphoedema therapists are on the website. Lymphoedema therapists are also available in private practice, where the cost of lymphatic drainage massage is met by the patient/client or sometimes by health insurance (including ACC).

BCFNZ funds lymphoedema therapy to the value of $180 with a lymphoedema therapist. Therapy may include education, assessment and treatment. The Māori Cancer Kaiarahi Service helps support Māori and their whānau with high suspicion of / or diagnosis of cancer to get the right information, make informed decisions about treatment options, and get to treatment.

Fear and uncertainty about the future often follow breast cancer treatment, research has shown that Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) training may help reduce emotional distress, anxiety and fatigue after cancer.
