People diagnosed with breast cancer in Aotearoa must navigate a complex healthcare system at a time of uncertainty and stress. From detection and diagnosis through treatment and beyond, people diagnosed with breast cancer encounter multiple decision points and healthcare interactions that can affect their access to information, quality of care, and overall outcomes.
This qualitative research aims to better understand the experiences and perspectives of people diagnosed with breast cancer to identify common challenges, barriers to early diagnosis and optimal treatment and opportunities for improvement. The findings will include a detailed patient journey highlighting critical moments that matter. It will help inform Breast Cancer Foundation NZ’s strategy, and guide future research and resources to improve outcomes for people affected by breast cancer in Aotearoa.
