Older women and breast cancer

Older women and breast cancer

Frankie Robson was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 76. In this webinar, she shares her experiences of breast-conserving surgery, radiation and how she navigated the health system.

She is joined by our expert panel who discuss the decisions women have to make, when, like Frankie, they are diagnosed with breast cancer in their 70s or above.

The panel covers what the different surgical and treatment options are, and why these might change depending on your age.

Meet our panel

Dr Adam Stewart is a breast surgeon who works in both public and private practice in Hamilton. He will talk about why continuing to be breast aware in your 70s is so important, and will cover off the surgical decisions older women have to make following a breast cancer diagnosis.

Dr Edmond Ang is a medical oncologist, working in both public and private practice in Whangārei. He has a special interest in caring for older people and will discuss different treatment options available to older women with breast cancer, as well as how to manage their side effects.

Frankie Robson found a lump in her breast one evening while having a cup of tea. A couple of days later, she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 76. She shares her experiences of going through breast-conserving surgery and radiation during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown and how she is doing now, a couple of weeks shy of her 80th birthday.
