Art Gallery hosts artworks - plus models - from this month's campaign

Breast Cancer Foundation NZ’s striking art-inspired awareness campaign is coming full circle this weekend.

Prints of breast cancer survivors recreating poses from classical paintings go on display at the Auckland Art Gallery from Saturday to Monday, alongside images of the original artworks.

You can meet two of the models from the Survivors Collection, Shona and Kelly, at the gallery at 10.30am on Saturday.

Dutch masters Rubens and Rembrandt faithfully painted their models as they saw them. In doing so, they recorded dimpling, puckering, lumps and marks that, today, we recognise as signs of breast cancer. This extraordinary fact sparked the campaign, launched for October’s Breast Cancer Month and wrapping up next week. The campaign message, Knowledge Beats Breast Cancer, celebrates the improvement in medical care in the 21st century while reminding modern women to ‘know your normal’ and be aware of any changes.

Where: Auckland Art Gallery, north atrium

When: Saturday 28th, Sunday 29th and Monday 30th Oct
