Eva's Story

EvaChemo-web.jpgFour years ago, Eva Wong was a typical young Kiwi looking forward to a bright future. But after finding a lump in her breast and having an ultrasound scan, she was stunned to be told: you have an aggressive form of breast cancer.

Nobody is ever prepared to hear those dreadful words. But Eva’s diagnosis was all the more shocking because of her age.

At first, Eva was numb. "It didn't hit me until a bit later that day when I said 'I have cancer' out loud. I was angry, annoyed, frustrated, sad - and scared."

Family and friends rallied around her. "I was flatting with a couple of friends at the time and they were amazing... They never treated me as if I was dying." But others drifted away. "I think I was a reminder to some people that it could all come crashing down."

Thankfully, Eva has recovered well. After treatment she married her boyfriend, Josh, and immediately fell pregnant with Joe.

Now, she is celebrating every day. "I'm four years cancer free, am living a happy and healthy life, and am incredibly grateful to have my husband and son. Above all, I'm just grateful that I'm still here and that I even have a future."
